Everything you need to consider before joining a HubSpot Agency

Will a HubSpot Agency be right for me?

It’s important to understand how a HubSpot agency works not just when it comes to searching for opportunities, but to know if it will be the right environment for you.

Unlike an in-house HubSpot position in which you manage the platform for one business or focus on a specific area/Hub, an agency role can require you to be knowledgeable in multiple (or all) Hubs while working with different teams to deliver (multiple) client's needs.

If you’re searching for a HubSpot role that focuses on one specific area (e.g., HubSpot Marketing Hub), then an agency isn’t for you. Your role isn’t just tied to one area; it will require you to understand the process of implementing the CRM from start to finish and have experience and knowledge within multiple products.

You may not be involved in every step of implementation, but it’s important to know about each product and step as you’ll be working closely with each team to apply changes effectively.

Skills

We’ll leave out the fact that you need HubSpot knowledge and experience as that one is pretty obvious.

We’re talking about the soft skills that will be required to be successful in an agency, as they are just as important. Of course, some skills will vary depending on the position or team you could be working in, but there will be several that cross over and become integral for all HubSpot agency colleagues.

  • Communication Skills: Needed in almost every job today, communication is vital in an agency setting from speaking with clients to a team member.
  • Driven: Whether it’s in research, results, or targets/goals, you’ll need this to help the agency succeed and deliver the best services.
  • Team-player: A term that isn’t loved by everyone, but each team/employee will be working closely with each other so working well in a team is a must.
  • Adaption: As HubSpot evolves, the agency will too so being able to adapt in an ever-changing environment will be highly beneficial.

As mentioned above There are also soft skills that will be more focused on the role/position itself. For example:

  • Developers need to be action-orientated, proactive, and love a good problem to solve.
  • CRM Consultants/specialists will need to be more analytical and passionate about finding the best results for clients

Depending on the role and level you’re applying for (consultant, solutions architect, etc.) you will need specific experience to fulfil the needs of that position, but soft skills are just as important to succeed.

Steps you should take before applying

As you do with any opportunity, you apply. But we all know it isn’t as simple as just walking in and getting the job, and with the number of agencies growing year on year, finding the one that’ll be right for you is also a mammoth task.

So, to find your way heading toward a career within a HubSpot agency, here are some steps you should take:

HubSpot courses and certifications – You might as well start with the obvious. As HubSpot evolves, that of course means that many elements will also evolve, and being in an agency means that you must be on the ball with these changes. Having the latest certifications means you’re up-to-date and continuously learning and developing. Read our blog on HubSpot Academy here! Boost Your Career with HubSpot Academy | Steadman Hub

Network – Networking isn’t everybody’s favourite, but speaking and connecting with those in the HubSpot agency partner world will show your enthusiasm and drive. This could be face-to-face at events, through LinkedIn, or with people you know. This may not get you a job straight away, but it can assist in getting your name out there.

LinkedIn – There are now over 42 million members on LinkedIn in the UK, with 2 million businesses promoting their services and searching for talent. LinkedIn isn’t just a platform to show your work experience, but to show potential employers your knowledge and understanding of HubSpot. Discuss HubSpot updates, changes you’ve seen in the industry, and certifications you’ve gained. Make sure you're following Steadman Hub on LinkedIn: Steadman Hub: Overview | LinkedIn

If you’re not one for posting, start slow. Look at what others are posting and use it as inspiration…just don’t copy and paste, that’s not nice.

Go through a recruitment agency – The search for a new role isn’t easy. Applying through multiple job boards and never knowing if you’ll hear back is something we’ve all experienced, which is why so many find their future role through an agency. But for HubSpot agency-focused roles, going through a typical recruitment service may not get you there.

Steadman Hub is the leading HubSpot recruitment agency, working with providers to assist in their employment drive and bring some of the best candidates into the spotlight.  Learn about how we support the HubSpot ecosystem here: Candidates | Steadman Hub

Conclusion

Whether you are new to the HubSpot space or looking to move from in-house, working within a HubSpot Agency may not be the route for everyone, so understanding what an agency is/does and the way they work is important to know if you feel that you can thrive in an agency environment.

Yet, if you've done the research and it has been your dream to step into the agency space for some time, then we are here to assist you every step of the way.
